This is the last round of the table logo.
This is the last round of the table logo.

After playing a bit more with the logos, I decided to shift gears and work with the table design. It’s an interesting shape and surprisingly unique as logos go. I like the idea of the table–it reminds me of a shared table and community meals, which is just the kind of vibe we’re going for with COMMN. The brand is all about breaking down barriers and mutual support, and the table is a perfect symbol for that.

So the next step is sorting out the design. After studying it for a while, we determined that it needed a bit of structure. I had drawn it originally on a whim, inspired by the cubist idea of simultaneity, or multiple angles being shown at once (that is–the front, side, and top of a table). It came out a bit wonky, and didn’t quite read, but there was something about it that was intriguing.

I redrew it in perspective to try and figure out what was going on. In the correct two point perspective it just looked off, maybe because it was floating in space?

So we went with the isometric sketch that was optically adjusted. I played around with some different sizes, scales of icon to wordmark, and other ideas before I landed on the table in its current form. I may keep playing with it over the next few months, but for now I’m loving it!
